We're having our first event!!!
We are proud to announce that we are teaming up with Kimberly M. Knight and “The Red is the New Black” platform to bring you our first ever community event, “National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day Celebration” in Wilson, North Carolina.
The event will take place at Sallie B. Howard School of Art & Education located at 1004 Herring Avenue in Wilson, NC on Saturday, February 2nd, from 4-7pm. The event will feature keynote speaker Dr. Allison Mathews, Founder of 2BeatHIV and Digital LinCS, innovative activities about HIV awareness, community vendors, community advocate acknowledgements, and a special presentation of the reading of the official proclamation for National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day by the Office of Mayor C.Bruce Rose.
The North Carolina Department of Public Health reported in the 2017 Annual Report that for newly diagnosed HIV cases Edgecombe, Nash, Wilson, and Pitt counties are in the Top 20 out of 100 counties in North Carolina with increasing HIV rates. We invite you to join us for this public community event to engage and increase awareness about HIV cure research, testing, prevention, and treatment for Eastern North Carolina.
Rashard Conrad - Breaking HIV Stigma
Rashard Conrad is originally from Durham, North Carolina. He is the Founder of the "Breaking HIV Stigma" blog and social media platform, which focuses on areas of online community awareness, education, prevention, and research. He is the Executive Assistant for Digital LinCS, a digital platform to assist people in applying for free HIV medications or preventative medication such as PrEP (Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis). He served as the Volunteer Coordinator of the 2018 World AIDS Day Summit: NC Beyond HIV. Currently, he is enrolled at North Carolina Central University pursuing his Bachelors Degree in areas of public health and social work.
Kimberly Knight - Red is the New Black
Kimberly Knight is originally from Wilson, NC and resides in Raleigh, NC. She is the Founder of the HIV awareness college tour and social media platform "Red is the New Black" for the past four years. Currently, she's a HIV/Syphilis Disease Intervention Specialist/Patient Navigator for the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill's Institute for Global Health & Infectious Disease,Board Member of 2BeatHIV, and Publicist for Digital LinCS, and enrolled in the Masters of Social Work program at North Carolina Central University. Recently, she was a co-organizer of the 2018 World AIDS Day Summit: NC Beyond HIV at the NC Executive Mansion and is Co-Founder of HIV Cure Research Day with Dr. Allison Mathews. Kimberly Knight is a member of the Western Wake Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
