Why Break The Stigma Associated with HIV?
Breaking the stigma associated with HIV is extremely important in the search for a cure and to stop the spread of the HIV virus. Stigma, weather it is external or internal can stop someone from getting tested, seeking treatment, disclosing their status or even having conversations with their partners about their sexual health in general! All of which contribute to the HIV/AIDS epidemic that we are experiencing.
Breaking HIV Stigma™ is focused on decreasing stigma associated with HIV by increasing engagement in community awareness, education, prevention, treatment and clinical trails. By increasing engagement in these areas, Breaking HIV Stigma™, will be able to do it’s part in helping to end the HIV/AIDS epidemic and help those affected by or living with HIV get the support they need.
After all, HIV is no longer a death sentence. HIV is a VIRUS and anyone living with HIV can live a normal, happy and healthy life! In 2019, HIV is honestly a manageable disease just like diabetes and high blood pressure. HIV can be managed or treated by simply taking one pill day along with diet and exercise.
The more people are educated and informed about HIV the greater the chances are that the stigma will be broken.
